COUNTDOWN TO OUR VERY OWN: Launching #SmarterCitiesNOW, 11-12 October, BLOXHUB, Copenhagen

Our 3 days at Nordic Edge Expo have confirmed what we already knew: you all want a truly interactive, structured smart city collaboration forum to complement traditional smart city conferences, where you can meet peers, working on the same issues/areas as you to discuss shared challenges, share knowledge and experience of what works/doesn’t, learn from each other, find customers, partners, talent and solutions – a forum, where the coffee break, lunch and networking sessions ARE the main event because talking to each other around agreed themes that YOU have decided is THE WHOLE POINT OF THE EVENT!

To meet these needs, we have created #SmarterCitiesNOW: A Sustainable Urban Development Collaboration Forum – an ambitious, ongoing, Nordic/Baltic smart city/sustainable urban development collaboration initiative, led by Copenhagen, working in partnership with the UK, led by London, and chaired by our Smart City/IOT Working Group Chair Michael Ferm, Global Head of Public Lighting, Zumtobel Group and the #SmarterCitiesNOW Steering Group.

IP Essentials for Tech Transfer: The UPC and Unitary Patents 5 October, London
The patent system in Europe is set to undergo its biggest change in decades with the introduction of a new Unified Patent Court (UPC) and the availability of a new pan-European “Unitary Patent” (UP).  With the UK having recently taken steps towards ratifying the Unified Patent Court agreement, we could see changes starting to come into effect before the year is out.  Patent owners and applicants should be considering both what action to take with their existing portfolio and whether they want to obtain unitary patents in the future.Agenda

•             What are the UPC and Unitary Patents and why do I need to know?

•             What do I need to know and when?

•             What are others doing?

Join us for a late-afternoon session where we address this topic, providing some practical advice on managing these up-coming changes in the technology transfer arena, and taking a look at how the implementation of the UPC and the Unitary Patent might affect your day-to-day decision making.
