City of London Hackathon

#SmarterCitiesNOW: A Sustainable Urban
Development Forum

Saturday 20th May 9.00 – 21.00, Sunday 21st May 9.00 – 18.00
(with kick off drinks Friday 19th May at 18.30 – 20.30)
Venue: The City Centre, 80 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5AG

Have you got what it takes to develop a solution to help solve the City of London’s congestion problem?

The Eastern Cluster, in the heart of the City of London, already has intense pressure on its roads and walkways. This is expected to intensify further based on projected growth in daytime population of  10% by 2025, which will further impact air quality, road safety, and the well-being of the people who live, work and visit the City. Can you develop a solution to improve the flow of people, goods and services in the Eastern Cluster to reduce the negative impact of population density with a solution, based on accessible City of London data? If so, apply here to join the City of London Hackathon 20th and 21st May 2017.

Your solution can cover any of the below sub-themes but MUST address the above City of London Wayfinding/Movement conflict:

  1. The Environment (pollution and air monitoring)
  2. Health & Wellbeing (comfort criteria)
  3. Road safety
  4. Security
  5. Placemaking (culture, heritage)
  6. Movement conflict

How many can join the Hackathon?

We’re looking for up to 40 Hackers. You can work alone or in teams of up to 5.

What’s the prize?

The City of London Corporation is considering a number of smart solutions to some of the very pressing challenges it faces – in particular the need to improve the mobility of people, goods and services around the Square Mile. We are committed to working with the winners of the hackathon to look at how – and at what cost – their idea could be implemented in the City of London. In addition the City Corporation are open to working with a runner-up to help promote their idea as part of the Smarter City programme at The City Centre.
