Smart City/IOT Working Group
On 20-21 May, we ran the first post-launch activity within our #SmarterCitiesNOW Nordic/UK collaboration with the City of London Hackathon in London.

City of London Hackathon, 20-21 May 2017, London

#HacktheCity – City of London Hackathon challenged teams to develop solutions to improve the flow of people, goods and services in the Eastern Cluster of the City, using publicly accessible City of London traffic data. Teams were asked to develop a solution to reduce the negative impact of population density. Harry Dobbs Design’s winning solution proposed using Smart Urban Design to address these issues, with a strategy for how the public realm might be more efficiently shared by its users over time. The runner-up design was produced by a team from Skidmore, Owings & Merril and Klimaat, with data analyst Can Khoo. The Flow uses data to re-think the public realm of the Eastern Cluster, using computer modelling techniques to give the best space to people by emphasising pedestrian use.  For more information about the solutions, email info@technordicadvocates.org

New Business Member  – Please Welcome JA Kemp To the TNA Family !!!

We are very excited to welcome JA Kemp to the TNA Business Member family.

Below are JA Kemp’s thought on joining TNA:

“We are delighted to have joined Tech Nordic Advocates. We bring to the network our specialist expertise in patents, trade marks and designs. We look forward to learning about the knowledge, skills, creativity and entrepreneurial successes of other members.  J A Kemp is one of the leading patent and trade mark attorney firms serving the needs of technology-driven businesses in Europe, with offices in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Munich. Our attorneys have long experience of helping start-up companies, spin-out companies and other fast-growing businesses to formulate and evolve a cost-effective intellectual property strategy that suits each stage of their development. We advise all four of the leading universities active in technology transfer in the UK as well as many other universities across Europe, the USA and elsewhere in the world, helping academic inventors to bring their ideas to market and maximise the value of their intellectual property. We can be brought in to add value at any stage in the development of any technology-driven company. As a client’s business grows, we are there every step of the way, advising on the appropriate intellectual property strategy to cover expansion into new geographical markets and protect innovative developments and applications of the core technology. Our work includes drafting, filing and prosecuting patent and trade mark applications in the UK, Europe and internationally. We lead the field with our experience and success rate in oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office.

J A Kemp advises businesses of all types, large and small, across the Nordic region.  We have been expanding our client base and geographical coverage for many years. We are regular and frequent travellers to the region, visiting our clients, attending events and speaking at conferences. With 35 PhDs in the firm, we can draw on in-depth expertise in every area of science and technology, including fields that cross technical boundaries.  We handle inventions right at the cutting edge of scientific discovery and the commercial application of technology.  For more information on our technology and sector expertise, please click here.

We welcome enquiries from other new or established members on any intellectual property matter, large or small. We enjoy working with the owners and managers of growing businesses to expand their knowledge and understanding of intellectual property issues and help them to develop and apply, with increasing confidence, an intellectual property strategy that is appropriate to their commercial goals and cost constraints. If you would like to arrange a call or a face to face meeting, please email Toby Hopkin

Tech Nordic Advocates are also pleased to announce our collaboration with the Latvian – British Chamber of Commerce.
