So much has happened in February. This month’s newsletter focuses on Working Group developments, our Podio collaboration platform, sponsored by Citrix, and our forthcoming Nordic Startup Conference, 18 March in Copenhagen.

Key Working Group developments

The FinTech Working Group now counts 221 Advocates, Cloud Computing 86. Both Working Groups are convening their first meetings soon  Check out Podio, where the Working Group Chairs, Lawrence Wintermeyer (FinTech) and Romualdas Petraitis, (Cloud Computing), will communicate directly with Advocates, who have signed up for the respective Working Groups.

Finland Trade Commission – London
Meeting with Perry Le Dain, Finland Trade Commission, Embassy of Finland in London, February 24 regarding collaboration.

Tech Chill – Riga
The TechChill conference, held in Riga on February 11 and one of the most prominent events in the region, brought together founders, speakers, venture capitalists and tech journalists from several countries to create perfect networking opportunities and to discuss the development of Baltics as a startup hub and showcase some of the most prominent and promising early-stage startups.  In 2016 the conference celebrated the anniversary of 5 years since its founding, and since the founding of Riga’s TechHub , a Tech Nordic Advocate.

Nordic-Baltic FinTech Fact Finding visit – London
On 3rd February, a group of more than 25 Nordic/Baltic leading FinTech companies from the Nordics and Baltics participated in an inward mission to the UK, organized by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Finextra. The focus was on; Partnering for digital transformation, Insights on funding success factors for start-ups and high growth companies and Navigating the investment landscape.

Venture Cup Idea Competition – Copenhagen
The Venture Cup Idea Competition 2016, was held on January 29th bringing together selected entrepreneurs from the Danish Universities to compete to have the best entrepreneurial idea. The overall winner, amongst the six categories, were POC Solutions from the Medtech category. Congratulations from us!

Latest Partner News

Intellectual Property specialist Anthony Albutt, from TNA Partner D Young & Co, will be moderating a session at the Nordic Start-up Conference in Copenhagen on 18th March (see above).  Anthony will be chairing the session on Internationalisation – how to manage the transition from home-market to global player. The session will explore some of the key commercial considerations companies need to think about when making the leap from the safety of the home market. D Young & Co will also be providing advice on the TNA blog about how you can protect your company as you expand globally, using intellectual property rights.

Gillamore Stephens “Outside Looking In” – Gillamore Stephens has been talking to two leading European VCs that invest in the Nordics for their views of the region.

FinTech is busy and buzzing in Copenhagen, with Money2020 coming to the City in April and  the City of Copenhagen promoting Copenhagen as a FinTech Hub. Will we see a launch of an Accelerator bringing together Startups and the FinTech Community under one roof! The Capital Region of Denmark – Greater Copenhagen is celebrating having won the prestigious award for the best strategy to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in the European Cities and Regions of the Future rankings 2016/17 by fDi Intelligence, a division of the Financial Times. The Greater Stockholm Region was also on the shortlist.
